Resource Challenge

Although Lake St. Clair is a beautiful healthy ecosystem, it is still plagued with beach closings and near shore pollution problems. Our goal is to help solve these problems. Solutions like the annual beach and shoreline cleanup, the "lake safe" lawn fertilizer sticker program, the storm drain stenciling program are just a few of the ongoing projects that we are undertaking. The only way we can accomplish these goals are through the help of our many partners.

Results and Accomplishments

Every year we gain new projects and partnerships. During the first year of existence, we brought the local high schools, businesses and residents together to tackle the "wood duck habitat restoration project". With the financial support of two auto bump shops and the cooperation of lake front residents, the students constructed 25 wood duck nest boxes and put them up on Lake St. Clair. That was 10 years ago. This year, with the help of SOCRRA and the local lawn fertilizer retail outlets, we put together a "lake safe" lawn fertilizer sticker program for St. Clair Shores. Over the life of this committee, we have worked on over 25 projects, most of which are ongoing projects like the annual beach and shoreline cleanup, storm drain stenciling, creating buffer conservation areas and many other positive actions to improve the health of Lake St. Clair.

Innovation/Highlight

The St. Clair Shores Waterfront Advisory Committee is a pro-active volunteer group of concerned citizens whose goal is to raise the level of awareness for protecting and enhancing the stewardship of Lake St. Clair.
