The Conservation Fund was engaged by the Town of Vienna to develop a Community Vision Plan in anticipation of the 5-year up date of their Comprehensive Plan.  TCF worked with town leaders, citizens, and key county officials to develop a vision for the future of the community.

This project is part of TCF’s effort to develop new models for sustainable growth in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed that accommodate growth while protecting important natural resources and strengthening communities.

TCF performed extensive resource assessments, evaluated development patterns, interviewed community members, and reviewed state, county, and township regulations. In a series of public meetings, TCF presented four alternative visions including Build-out (under current regulations), Historic Village, Commercial Center, and Town Green. Based on community feed back, the final vision for Vienna as a Model Chesapeake Community included land use recommendations, a green infrastructure plan, and a civic infrastructure plan.

In addition to developing the Vienna Community Vision Plan, TCF is working at a regional scale to assess ecological and heritage-based tourism opportunities in the Nanticoke River Watershed and working with a private land owner to devise a conservation development plan for a 170-acre property adjacent to the town.
