The Nanticoke River flows through one of the most pristine and least developed sub-watersheds in the entire Chesapeake Bay. Its largely unspoiled, biologically diverse ecology and historic character make it a unique resource worthy of preservation. It contains one-third of the remaining tidal wetlands in Maryland, provides critical habitat for waterfowl and aquatic wildlife, and is home to numerous rare, threatened or endangered species. The region features a rich cultural heritage with archaeological treasures and historic sites. Agriculture, timber production and commercial fishing are important to the Watershed’s economy and depend on the preservation of its natural resources. Outdoor recreation opportunities abound, including hunting, fi shing, camping, boating, biking, and bird watching.
