Resource Challenge Permanently protecting these forestlands will preserve wildlife habitat, enhance recreational opportunities, and continue sustainable forestry on mixed coniferous timberland to benefit the local economy. The upper reaches of the St. Joe River are designated as a National Wild and Scenic River, and maintaining high water quality in the river will protect important fisheries such as bull trout and westslope cutthroat trout.
